November 2025 - Skewen FC  Mini and Junior Expansion

Following the fantastic growth of the Mini and Junior section within Skewen FC, which has grown from 20 players in August 2024 to now over 250 players in January 2026, the club have recently made an application to the Coedffranc Town Council to allow the club the use of the lower field at the park, commonly referred to as Struthers Field. The field would be utilised mainly on Saturday Mornings to give our young players a fixed home field local to Skewen on which to play their home games. As part of the application, the club has offered to take on the maintenance of this area.

UPDATE - February 2026

Unfortunately, this proposal has thus-far been denied by Coedffranc Town council. The club is extremely disappointed by this decision and feels that the local councilors are not taking into account the needs of the community. Furthermore, the reasoning provided in the letter received from the Town Council is contradictory. They have stated in the reply, available via the button below, that "The decision of the Council was that the bottom play area is an area to be maintained as an area which is free to use for all members of the public i.e. it is an open access space which cannot be reserved for clubs and associations. This decision was taken a number of years ago with the purpose of supporting all residents, especially those who are not members of clubs or associations. This is especially beneficial for underprivileged families and children who may feel excluded being unable to pay subscriptions and memberships to clubs." This is later contradicted in the same letter where the council refers to a 'Bio-diversity report' that would change the use of the area from being an "area which is free to use for all members of the public" to a wildlife meadow. A copy of this report is also available via a button below.

Furthermore, the field referenced in the response at Caewathen, has also recently been developed as a community wildlife meadow, meaning it is therefore unable to used.

Skewen FC, whilst relying on membership fees and support from sponsors to survive, we have never turned anyone away who is unable to pay a membership fee, we are lucky to be backed by the FAW's 'PAWB Fund' which allows for the fees of those who are unable to pay to be covered by the Governing Body of Football in Wales. We therefore find this rationale deplorable.

More information on the 'PAWB Fund' is available on the following website - www.faw.cymru/pawb/pawb-fund/

The club is proud to support the local community, it's players and their parents. This is shown by the club's recently introduced 'Boot-room Scheme' which allows for parents to trade in poor fitting football related footwear in exchange for another pair free of charge.
